Why Christine's Fitness was so necessary...

 |
|
Before I tell you why Christine's Fitness HAD to be created I need to give you a little background.

My Humble Beginning:

I started in the health club business in 1973 in Montreal. In 1975 I moved to Toronto, and went to work for Vic Tanny's Health Clubs.
In 1979 that company was bought out by SuperFitness Centers. I continued to work for them, and grew as they grew. By the 1980's they were the largest health club organization in Toronto and all of Canada.

As well as working every day in the clubs, I became the company's spokesperson, appearing in the print ads, radio and TV commercials and billboards and flyers. Some people still remember me as "Christine from SuperFitness."

Doing commercials was fun, but that's not what gave me the experience that is valuable to me today. It was working sixty hours a week in the clubs with the members. A lot of members. Over one hundred thousand between 1979 and 1999. No one anywhere has done research on a group that large. So gradually I came to know what works, when it comes to exercise and nutrition. I decided it was time to apply that knowledge. |

Hard Work And Experience Payoff I worked hard and was rewarded with a moderate degree of success. During the 1980's I became Vice President and by the 1990's I was part owner of SuperFitness.

In 1999 I Made A Life Changing Decision I sold my interests in SuperFitness! After 26 years working in fitness clubs operating as "chains," I realized only so much could be done for the members when you try to take care of upward of 2000 people a day. I knew what had to be done, now I needed to create a vehicle to do it.

I Decided To Concentrate On Providing Services For Women Only
There were many reasons for this, the most important one to me was that is what I most enjoy doing. It is how I get my sense of worth - by helping others the best way I know how!

Women Do Not Get Good Results
Exercising With Men
Oh sure, if you just want something to do together with you boyfriend or husband you can "hang-out" together and go to the gym. But as far as getting results goes, this approach only works when you are young, like under 25. As you move along in life, have children, different work schedules, energy levels and obligations, going to the fitness club together goes on the back burner. Your requirements are just too different.

Health Club Chains Seldom Produce Good Results For Women
How can they, when you are working on equipment that has to be big enough for men, and often have to stop and wait your turn to use a machine? When you
stop in the middle of your workout, you lose what we call "the training effect." To understand this, imagine you decide to go for a walk for exercise. But after every step, you sat down and rested. Do you think the walk would do you any good?

Here Are The Factors I Took Into Consideration When I Created Christines
| • |
The location had to be convienent, on the subway, and with plenty of parking. Or it just gets to be too much of a hassle to go regularly. |
| • |
The atmosphere had to be luxurious and comfortable. The experience has to be positive, in order to be repeated. I decided to employ the same reasoning people eat in nice restaurants or stay in nice hotels. |
| • |
All the equipment had to be designed to suit womens requirements, not men's. Exercise equipment are our "tools of the trade." Without the right tools, it is difficult to get the job done. |
| • |
Women require a certain degree of privacy. If you go to any chain club, you will find yourself running around partially clothed or even naked in the locker room and showers. Christine's has private bathrooms, just like at home. |
| • |
Personal Trainers have to be real trainers. I hate to say anything negative about the industry, but it is a sad truth that there are no uniform standards for personal trainers. Some get "certified" from a manual that can be read in a couple of hours, and a test on Saturday afternoon. Would you be happy if your Doctor or Dentist had this kind of training? Believe me, a bad trainer can do your body a lot of harm! |
| • |
Nutrition is an important part of any health and fitness program. With a new diet book every week it seems, there is always a new fad to try. But fads do not produce long term results. It takes a lot of experience working with people for years to set up proper nutritional programs. |
| • |
Women need "one stop" convenience. Whether geeting your nails done, tanning, massage, chiropractic, and anything else you need to look and feel your absolute best, it all has to be available in one place. |
| • |
Women do not like to sign long term membership contracts. We are too busy and too many things change in our lives. |
| • |
Someone has to be on the premises who has the authority to make corrections and decisions. Many, many times I have had members from "chain clubs" tell me there never seems to be anyone there who can straighten out problems with their account, or make positive changes to their program when they are not getting results. |

With these parameters in mind, I created Christine's Fitness. Everything you need under one roof. And your satisfaction is guaranteed when the owner is on the premises. What other health club for women can say that?
